What is the Code for Sustainable Homes?
The Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) is the minimum standard that all buildings to be used for Affordable Housing must meet. The Code measures the sustainability of a new home against categories of sustainable design, rating the whole home as a complete package. The Code uses a 1 to 6 level rating system to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a new home.
Currently, Affordable Housing must meet CSH Level 4 in 2009, followed by CSH Level 5 in 2013. Viridis Homes is a pathfinder for normal build; running circa 3 years ahead of normal build standards, making these homes a premium, future proof build.
Do I need planning permission for a Viridis home?
Yes, planning permission is required for each type of house we provide.
Will my Viridis home look like a ‘normal’ house?
Yes. Our modular homes look just like conventional houses and by just looking at them you cannot tell the difference between them.
Does a Viridis home need foundations?
Yes, each of our homes requires foundations.
Can I obtain a mortgage for a Viridis home?
Yes, the following lenders may assist you.
Bath Building Society, Cumberland BS, Ecology BS, Furness BS, Hinckley and Rugby BS, Holmesdale BS, Ipswich BS, Lloyds TSB Scotland, Leeds BS, Market Harborough, Monmouthshire, Nationwide, Norwich and Peterborough, Progressive BS, Scottish BS Further Info
Does a Viridis home come with a manufacturer′s warranty?
Yes, all of our homes are supplied with a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty and if required, also qualify for an insurance-backed, independent 10 year warranty, providing standard site developments conditions are met.
Does the timber used in building a Viridis home come from a sustainable source?
Yes, all the timber we use in building our homes is supplied from sources approved by either the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) or the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This enables us to buy forest products of all kinds knowing that we are not contributing to global deforestation; for every tree used, several more are planted.
What are the benefits of building with timber?
Not only is timber a renewable resource, it is also a strong and safe building material. Contrary to popular misconception, timber performs very well in a fire and unlike other construction materials, does not bend or flake at high temperatures. Timber naturally has excellent insulation properties for both heat and sound which ensures greater warmth and privacy in the home. Timber framed buildings also qualify for mortgages and are often more aesthetically pleasing than their brick built counterparts.
